Under the dynamic leadership of Shri K H Muniyappa, Hon’ble Minister for MSME on 16th January 2014, Ministry of Mines, Government of India has taken initiative to revive the Bharat Gold Mines Ltd, Oorgaum, Karnataka, which is lying closed since 2001. Towards this end, an Agreement was signed between Gopal Dhawan, chairman-cum-managing director, Mineral Exploration Corporation Ltd. (MECL) and managing director in-charge of Bharat Gold Mines Limited (BGML), and A.K. Tyagi, chairman-cum-managing director of MECON Ltd., a Central public sector unit, for reviving Bharat Gold Mines Ltd. (BGML) through a global bidding process at Shasthri Bhawan, New Delhi. As per the agreement, Mecon will prepare the tender documents and float global tenders for the revival of now defunct gold mines at Kolar Gold Fields in Kolar district in Karnataka.
